#StopHerakles: Take Action

Campaign Home Action Alert Take Action Background Resources

Highest Priority:

1. Send a personal message by email, or post, to Patrick Jones, the Managing Director of Herakles Farms. Ask him to take all necessary measures to stop their destruction of this tropical rainforest in the southwest region of Cameroon. Email sustainability@heraklesfarms.org now.

2. Contact President Paul Biya of Cameroon, by email or post, and ask him to listen to the voices of the Cameroonian people and immediately stop Herakles Farms’ project for this palm oil plantation.  http://www.prc.cm/index_en.php?link=messenger/write_pr

Sample Letter:
Dear President Biya and Mr. Jones,

I am deeply concerned about the Palm Oil Plantation planned by Herakles Farms in the Southwest Region of Cameroon.

The destruction of this forest will have terrible consequences not only for the local people who rely on the rainforest, but for the wildlife and environment as well.

Please do everything you can to protect, not exploit, the valuable and ancient rainforest. It is imperative that you take all necessary measures to cease your plans for this plantation, and to close down any ongoing operations already in place, including your three nurseries.

I encourage you to work with the local people in the region to make a truly sustainable plan for development in Cameroon. As a signatory to the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Cameroon should ensure that local indigenous people have “free, prior, and informed consent” regarding development projects in their homelands.

The whole world is watching how Herakles Farms will proceed. The government of Cameroon and Herakles Farms can be real leaders in conservation, not destroyers.

Please let me know the actions you will take regarding this issue.

Sincerely
(Your Name)
