The World Future Council is a new global forum to protect the interests and rights of future generations.  Consisting of fifty prominent personalities from the worlds of governance, parliaments, business, civil society, science, and the arts, the World Future Council works with policymakers and citizens worldwide to identify and implement the best policies for a sustainable future.

The Council’s commitment to future generations

At the recent Founding Congress, the Councilors signed this statement:

“We promise to do everything in our power to help sustain life on earth with all its beauty and diversity for future generations, and to speak up for comprehensive peace and true justice between the world’s peoples and countries. We make this commitment on our founding day to all children living now and in the future.”

“It could be worthwhile to establish a body whose principle task would be to monitor human affairs from the perspective of ethics.  …  This would consist of an elected group of individuals drawn … from a wide variety of backgrounds. …Because this body would not actually be invested with political power, its pronouncements would not be legally binding.  But by virtue of its independence … these deliberations would be seen to represent the conscience of the world.  They would thus carry moral authority.”-His Holiness, The Dalai Lama

“The transition to a sustainable future is no longer a technical nor a conceptual problem; it is a problem of values, political will, and leadership.  The WFC is designed to provide that critical leadership. I am delighted to give it my full support.”-Fritjof Capra, Ph.D., scientist and author

“To have set up the World Future Council was a timely initiative. There has never been a greater need for a body of this sort to drive home to governments and the public at large what is almost certain to be the appalling consequences of sticking for much longer to present short-sighted policies.”-Edward Goldsmith, founder, The Ecologist

“The world community urgently needs long-term perspectives to improve its decision making. The WFC is filling a vital gap by emphasizing the interconnectedness and the ethical imperatives of the human enterprise.”
